The editor of JOTO often receives private messages: "Why do you sell more expensive products than others?"?? The editor of JOTO really exhausted his strength to explain!

Those who have bought JOTO products will know that JOTO uses food-grade glazes. In addition to excellent craftsmanship, the glaze firing process is very different from other places.

The birthplace of JOTO is in Jingdezhen City, Jiangxi Province, China. Those who have learned a little bit of Chinese history will never forget that after the rise of professional towns in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province, China, became an important ceramic town in China, and even the world. In the 16th century, the Jiajing transport official once described Jingdezhen in his "Eryou Wei Tan": "The kiln wares in the world are gathered, and the people here are prosperous. This city is number one in the province. I used to be transported here, seeing the whole town was beating the porcelain clay with pestles, the sound shook the ground, and the kiln for firing porcelain was full of flames, which makes people sleepless at night." Therefore, Jingdezhen is jokingly called "Four Seasons Thunder Town".

JOTO brings you the pinnacle of ceramic craftsmanship in a world-class ceramic town. The quality will never be sloppy. The craftsmanship has inherited the reputation of Four Seasons Thunder Town and has continued to reach its peak.

Today, let JOTO editor introduces the difference between "high-temperature glaze" and "low-temperature glaze" to you, taking everyone to know about ceramics, and at the same time, you can also understand JOTO's insistence on the quality of ceramic art.

Have you ever wondered why the ceramic dishes at home can have such a strong function of holding water?  The editor of JOTO once learned how prehistoric humans made pottery in the archeology class of the university: the finer clay was selected by the stream, and after repeated kneading, it was made into mud strips, and finally pottery was made using the "clay strip construction method" . Pottery produced by prehistoric techniques has high water permeability, and pottery has high permeability when it holds liquid. After centuries of evolution in pottery technology, we have gradually learned the technique of applying glaze to the surface of pottery to reduce the water permeability of pottery.

And because of the continuous improvement of technology, the choice of glaze has also increased a lot. According to the firing temperature of the glaze, it can be divided into three types: low temperature, medium temperature and high temperature glaze. The firing temperature of low-temperature glaze is below 1000 degrees, which is about 900-980 degrees. If the bright glaze color is often preserved in low-temperature glaze, it is easy to release metal substances; The firing temperature of medium-temperature glaze is about 1160-1280 degrees, while that of high-temperature glaze is above 1300 degrees. After the firing temperature is higher than 1200 degrees, the glaze will become more stable and will not release metal substances, and the pores of the pottery will become smaller and it will be less likely to stick to substances.

According to the firing method, it can also be divided into "oxidation firing" and "reduction firing". Oxidation firing is to fill the kiln with oxygen during the firing process, so that the glaze color may be more stable, and the firing methods of JOTO products are both the second type: reduction burning. The technique of reduction firing is even more difficult. During the firing process, the kiln is kept in an oxygen-deficient state, so the kiln fire will turn to the pottery body to find oxygen, thereby causing more changes in the glaze color. Because JOTO adopts the method of "reduction firing" to pursue the peak of craftsmanship, it is also necessary to use high-temperature glazes suitable for reduction firing. Raising the firing temperature will not let the metal substances be released, and can restore beautiful glaze colors (such as celadon, copper red, Jun kiln and other colors).

The difference between high-temperature glaze and low-temperature glaze is that in addition to the lower water absorption caused by the shrinkage of pores, the high-temperature kiln is also stronger than the low-temperature kiln, smoother to the touch, and the sound of knocking is crisper, which not only shows JOTO's pursuit of the quality of ceramic craftsmanship, but also can see from the pottery the peak craftsmanship inherited by pottery masters from generation to generation.

Because the production process of high-temperature glaze is difficult, and the quality of the selected ones is better, the price will be a little bit more expensive than low-temperature glaze, which is really unavoidable. I hope this article can let everyone understand that JOTO stands at the forefront of global ceramic art, and pursues the quality and exquisite craftsmanship of ceramic art.
