JOTO Vase Recommendations: We May Not Reach the End, but There's Always the Next Step
October has been a particularly tough month for me. At the beginning of the month, I attended the annual conference of the Taiwan Women's Studies Association, and throughout the month, there were various gender-related events and marches to either participate in or organize. It's been exhausting, but I remind myself that social change depends on the accumulation of our efforts, so we must push through. Even though I'm currently dealing with a cold while preparing for next week's campus gender march and juggling midterm reports and exchange applications, a book I read last week has given me strength. Let’s talk about the things that keep us going!

The other song is You’re on Your Own, Kid. Every late-night struggle is accompanied by this empowering line: “I saw something they can't take away. 'Cause there were pages turned with the bridges burned. Everything you lose is a step you take." This song encourages me to face challenges head-on, reminding me that no matter how tough things get, I can always keep moving forward.

Last week, I read The Politics of Affect by Iranian-Canadian philosopher Brian Massumi. When asked if there is hope, Massumi explains that hope shouldn't be tied to the expectation of success. If hope is connected only to optimism, there’s little space for it in the current global situation. But if we detach hope from these concepts, it becomes meaningful again. We might not always reach the finish line, but there’s always the next step.
